In recent years, the strict policies of the Australian government towards asylum seekers have left tens of thousands of people, including those from countries like Iran, in extremely difficult psychological conditions. These policies have led nearly six hundred asylum seekers to commit suicide due to the mental strain of hopelessness and uncertainty since 2012, with 29 of them, including several Iranians, losing their lives.
The Australian Iranian Community Organization has consistently criticized the inhumane policies of the Australian government towards asylum seekers. Through various meetings and written communications, we have urged immigration officials to end these policies by adhering to international treaties and laws regarding asylum seekers.
We also urge asylum seekers who have been waiting for years for their asylum applications and residency to be accepted to pursue their rightful demands with patience and perseverance. If they are struggling with mental health issues, they should seek psychological help and counseling from centers like the Australian Iranian Community Organization.
