Official Statement
Australian-Iranian Community Organisation
The Australian-Iranian Community Organisation expresses its unequivocal support for the Government of Australia in its principled and decisive response to the recent revelations regarding the Islamic Republic regime of Iran’s direct interference in Australian domestic affairs.
We strongly condemn the Islamic Republic regime of Iran’s orchestrated involvement in the recent terrorist attacks in Sydney and Melbourne. These appalling crimes were not only acts of antisemitic hatred but also deliberate assaults on Australia’s social cohesion, pluralism, and democratic values.
We commend Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his government for their clear and resolute actions, including:
-
the expulsion of the ambassador and diplomatic staff of the Islamic Republic regime of Iran,
-
the suspension of Australia’s embassy operations in Tehran, and
-
the introduction of legislation to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)—a state apparatus with a long record of terror, repression, and destabilisation—as a terrorist organisation under Australian law.
For decades, the IRGC has served as the principal instrument of the Islamic Republic regime of Iran in sponsoring violent extremism, exporting instability, and oppressing both the people of Iran and communities abroad. Its ideology and operations are fundamentally incompatible with peace, human rights, and democratic values.
By taking this courageous stand, Australia is not only safeguarding its own national security but also upholding justice, diversity, and the protection of all its citizens regardless of faith or heritage. The formal designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organisation is both fully justified and urgently necessary.
We, the Australian-Iranian community, stand firmly with the Government of Australia, extend our full cooperation to the authorities in their ongoing investigations, and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to a safe, inclusive, and cohesive Australian society.
