The Australian-Iranian Community Organisation strongly condemns the recent wave of antisemitic attacks in Melbourne, including the attempted arson of a synagogue and the violent targeting of a local restaurant. These are not just criminal acts — they are assaults on the very principles of peace, respect, and multiculturalism that define Australian society.
We reaffirm, once again, that no international conflict — including the IsraelPalestine crisis — should ever serve as a pretext for hostility or division among communities, religions, or belief groups within Australia. Acts of violence or intimidation only further fracture the trust that binds our diverse society and risk setting a dangerous precedent that may one day affect all of us, regardless of background.
Indeed, it is our responsibility in Australia to be part of the solution — not the problem. Our role must be to promote understanding, foster dialogue, and support efforts toward peaceful resolution, not to import conflict or deepen the wounds of others.
All communities in Australia, including Jewish Australians, have the unequivocal right to live in safety, dignity, and freedom from fear. Targeting individuals or groups based on perceived political affiliations or religious identity is unacceptable, unjust, and incompatible with our shared values.
We call on government, community representatives, and all Australians to stand united against hate in all its forms — and to reaffirm the need for mutual respect, coexistence, and peace, now more than ever.
